Dots – San Francisco, CA
Dots is a dessert spot selling tapioca (boba) drinks, Hong Kong egg waffles, Pinwheel cakes.
What we ordered:
Black sesame and mochi pinwheel cake: The filling is delicious! Mochi is chewy and black sesame is slightly sweet but not too sweet. Great for Asian’s palette. However, the biggest drawback is the actual pinwheel cake was dry, cold, and tasted more like old bread than a pinwheel cake.
Rating: 1 out of 5

Oreo and Nutella pinwheel cake: Did not taste any Nutella at all and the Oreo was mushy. The cake again is dry, cold, and more like old bread.
Rating: 0 out of 5 (horrible!)

For $3.95 per pinwheel cake, this is a pricey dessert! I would pay for it if it truly tastes like a pinwheel cake since they do not have it here in San Francisco. However, for the price point and the stale cake, I won’t be coming back. Also, I asked for one cake and the cashier said, “You have to purchase a minimum of two cakes.” Their signs are not clear you HAVE to buy at least two cakes. I think it’s greedy for a place to make your buy a minimum of two cakes when one cakes is expensive enough already. I haven’t tried their drinks or other desserts, but after this experience, I will NOT be coming back again. For the best pinwheel cake, check out Peanuts in Richmond, Canada. Yes, I will drive for 2 days for a good, solid pinwheel cake and it’s less than a dollar for one!
