Hawthorne Asylum, Oregon Food Crawl

Smaaken Waffles Sandwiches: As the name suggests, this food truck specializes in waffles. We ordered the chocolate waffle sandwich at two locations to compare – one at The Heist and another one at Hawthorne Asylum.

Chocolate waffle sandwich: Chocolate is dark chocolate and feels  like a good quality dark chocolate. At The Heist, the waffle did not live up to the hype. It’s not as crispy as I would have liked.  The one at Hawthorne Asylum is much more crispier.

Rating: 3 out of 5 for the Heist

4 out of 5 for Hawthorne Asylum

Isla Bella Cuban Food – Cuban Chicken and Rice: The chicken was dry and they covered it in a red sauce to try to make it moist. Chicken lacked flavor and was bland due to lack of marination. Rice and beans was mediocre as it wasn’t anything special, and lacked seasoning. Fried plantains were good, but then again most things fried taste delicious. And the salad was nothing to rave about and was also mediocre.

Rating: 2 out of 5

Bake on the Run:  Salted cod baked Salted cod wrapped in a pita like bread. The reminds me of Chinese salted fish. I like the quality of the fish. Salted fish is cooked with eggs and sprinkled with green onions. It’s unique sine I never tried Guyanese food before and I can definitely taste the Chinese influence. However, $11.00 for fish in a baked bread makes this overrated.
